Community Mobilization on managing enset at zonal level held on July 10, 2023 in Wolkite town of Gurage Zone. Welcome and introduction was by Ato Abera, Zone Agriculture head. It was followed by a presentation from the zonal Agriculture bureau.
during the presentation the following was mentioned; Enset covers over 129,000 ha of 471,000 ha of cultivated land. It is about 30 percent of the cultivated land. It is the main staple food. Its production potential 230-420 quintal per ha.
some of the challenges of Enset production discussed during the gathering was 1. Low soil fertility 2. Bacterial wilt 3. Rodents and 4. No appropriate technology, etc
Dr.Hailu Araya from PELUM Ethiopia and other two from zonal administration are conducting discussions on the issue of Inset in Gurage zone with different stakeholder like research center, Farmers, Agricultural offices and experts from different sector etc.
in addition, Testimonies of female farmers continued. They are from Debub Sodo, they are exemplary farmers who didn't face any challenge of Enset bacterial wilt at their Enset farmer.
